How to do a Lying Leg Curl
Lying Hamstring Curls are a great isolation exercise to build strong hamstrings so that you can lift more efficiently in your bigger compound movements, such as Deadlifts and RDLs and Squats etc.
These are very functional too - hamstring contractions in real life happen predominantly with your hamstrings starting behind you.
But they are commonly misexecuted! Lots of people typically use momentum to drive up, then they lose a portion of the eccentric movement on the way back down (because you’re ‘clanging’ and using momentum on the way up, this carries over on the way down too so you’re actually doing less work)
Instead squeeze and drive to 3/4 of the way up, hold and then slowly lower under control on the way down. This you are getting much more out of the movement and not relying on momentum at any point.
We go through some more in depth cues on position of toes, where to wrap the pad around your feet, tempo and more!
